Othello man charged in attempted shooting

OTHELLO – A local man is in the Benton County Jail facing charges in connection with an attempted shooting in Othello on Sept. 8.

Dario Ochoa Jr., 23, remains in jail on a first-degree assault charge, records show. He is being held without bail.

According to Othello police, Ochoa was arrested following a shooting at about 10:48 p.m. Sept. 8 in the 1100 block of East Oak Street.

Police were called to the scene after a report of multiple gunshots being fired, records show. Officers found the alleged victim walking along the side of the road.

In interviewing the victim, police determined that the shooting attempted had occurred in the fenced backyard of a nearby home, records show.

Police determined they had probable cause to believe Ochoa had fired several rounds at the victim, but missed.

Police obtained a search warrant and went to the home, where Ochoa was arrested, records show.

In searching the home, police located two firearms, loaded magazines and ammunition, records show.
