Pasco man dies from injuries in Matawa roundabout crash

MATTAWA — A Pasco man has died from injuries he sustained in a crash in the roundabout on state Highway 243.

Roy L. Lomon, 80, was pronounced dead at Kadlec Hospital in Richland at about 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17. The hospital notified his next of kin.

Lomon was injured in a 5:29 a.m. crash the same day, the Washington State Patrol said.

He was northbound in a 1993 Toyota pickup, the patrol said. He was unable to negotiate the roundabout on the highway.

Lomon's pickup left the roadway to the left and came to rest in an adjacent ditch, the patrol said, citing the cause of the crash as speed too fast for conditions.

The driver was transported to Kadlec, where he later died from his injuries, the patrol said.

Lomon was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, the patrol said.

In a crash report, the patrol said it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors.
