Local elections worker hailed for bilingual work
PASCO – A Franklin County Election’s Department worker has received a Secretary of State’s Accessibility All-Star Award.
Rosa Fernandez was announced as an award recipient Thursday, June 23, by Secretary of State Steve Hobbs.
In the award, Fernandez was hailed for producing election content in both English and Spanish for Franklin County, while also assisting Adams and other nearby counties with large Spanish-speaking voter populations.
Hobbs credited her for reviewing English-to-Spanish translations for accuracy while also looking for new ways to better serve voters lacking English language skills.
The award was presented by State Elections Director Stuart Homes during the recent state Elections Conference in Spokane.
Fernandez was one of several award recipients.
Others include the Kitsap County Elections Department, Outstanding Security Award; Spokane County voter registration coordinator Amelia O’Deen, Rising Star of the Year Award; and Thurston County Elections Manager Tillie Naputi-Pullar, County Elections Employee of the Year. She also received the award in 2014.
