Othello driver injured in crash

BEVERLY – An Othello man was transported to a Moses Lake hospital Monday morning following a crash on state Highway 26.

Victor G. Garza, 70, was injured in a 5:02 a.m. crash, Monday, March 7, near the intersection of Beverly Burke Road, a rural road that connects Beverly to George west of Royal City, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Garza was westbound in a 2013 Volvo truck and trailer when he attempted to pass a 1999 Volvo truck and potato trailer turning onto Beverly Burke Road, the patrol reported.

The older truck was being driven by Miguel S. Gomez, 37, or Royal City, the patrol reported.

The two trucks collided, with the trucks sliding together into a power pole, the patrol reported.

That pole sheared off and came to rest on the cab of Gomez’s truck, the patrol reported. Garza’s truck came to rest on top of the rear two axles of Gomez’s truck.

Gomez was not injured, the patrol reported.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and neither drugs nor alcohol was a factor, the patrol reported.
