CHENEY – Shari McMahan is the new president of Eastern Washington University. The board of trustees announced the news in a Feb. 24 press release. McMahan is the 27th president of the university and the second woman president in the institution’s history.

McMahan was one of the four finalists out of 60 applicants. She is currently the provost and vice president for academic affairs at California State University in San Bernardino.

McMahan beat out interim president David May for the job and Monroe Gorden Jr., vice president of student affairs of UCLA, and John Tomkowiak, founding dean of Washington State University College of Medicine.

“The EWU Board is extremely pleased to appoint Share McMahan as the next president of Eastern Washington University,” BOT Chair Kim Pearman-Gilman said. “Dr. McMahan will be an amazing Eagle who will move this university forward.”
