MESA — A Soap Lake man is accused of following too close and causing a crash at 6:59 a.m. today, Thursday, July 29, on state Highway 17 near Paradise Road, about nine miles north of town.

Thomas M. Barnes, 36, of Soap Lake, allegedly failed to slow down for traffic in front of him, the Washington State Patrol said.

Barnes, who was southbound in a 2006 Ford F150, swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle, causing the pickup to overturn, the patrol said.

A passenger in the vehicle, Aaron K. Barnes, 34, of Ephrata, was injured in the crash, the patrol said. He was transported to an area hospital.

The patrol cited the driver for following too close.
