PASCO — A local teenager was killed Monday, July 19, after he lost control of his car and crashed along Interstate 182.

Eli D. Barajas Diaz, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near Road 68 at about 2:07 p.m., according to the Washington State Patrol.

Diaz was westbound on the interstate in a 2004 Subaru Impreza at the time of the crash, the patrol reported. As he was taking the exit ramp to Road 68, he failed to make the curve and flipped his vehicle.

It came to rest on the bike path, the patrol said, noting Diaz was not wearing a seatbelt.

Troopers Benavidez and Brandt notified the driver's family of his death, the patrol said.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be factors in the crash, but it remains under investigation, the patrol said.
