Law enforcement steps up seatbelt patrols

Emphasis comes as motorists hit the road for Thanksgiving

PASCO — Law enforcement covering Franklin County ar stepping up the "Click it or Ticket" campaign this week in advance of Thanksiving.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Washington State Patrol and Pasco Police Department are emphasizing seatbelts, officials said.

"Please make sure that you are wearing your seatbelt, wearing your seatbelt the correct way (shoulder and lap) and that if you have children riding with you, that they are properly secured into adequate car seats/and seat belts," the Sheriff's Office said in information on its social media.

According to local police, 85% of drivers statewide wearseatbelts.

But in Franklin County all of the juvenile deaths in crashes were the result of not wearing a seatbelt or wearing it incorrectly, police said.
