Patches available to the public; proceeds benefit cancer research

PASCO — Fire Department and law enforcement officers are sporting pink this month as part of their uniforms.

The city agencies are participating in the Pink Patch Project this month as part of their observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The patches on their uniforms this month incorporate pink into their traditional insignias.

The Fire Department patch can be purchased for $6, which includes shipping. The Police Department patch costs $11, including shipping. Police also have patches available from previous years for $6, including shipping.

Fire Department patches

The Fire Department says its the first fire services agency in the state to participate in the Pink Patch Project.

Due to restrictions on in-person contact, the agency is selling its patches on its Etsy page online. Log onto www.etsy.com and search for Pasco or email Jeffrey Cobb at [email protected] for information.

Those who purchase a Fire Department patch are asked to use hastag #PascoFireWAPinkPatch on their social media to give firefighters an idea of how far their patches are reaching.

Police participation

Pasco police joined the Pink Patch Project effort in 2017 and have raised nmore than $15,000 for local cancer agencies, department officials said, noting the agency partners with the Tri-Cities Cancer Care Center.

The first patches included pink ribbons, in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In 2018, the ribbons moved from pink to pink and purple, a nod to both pink and pancreatic cancers.

Last year, the patch included pink and gold, a combination meant to raise awareness of breast cancer and childhood cancers.

This year, the redesigned patch is back to a double pink ribbon.

"We would love to see where our Pink Patches are going, use the hashtag of #PascoWAPinkPatch so we can track and share their travels around the world," a statement posted to the purchasing site said.

To order a police department patch, contact officer Jeffrey Cobb at [email protected]; include "Pink Patch" in the subject line.

The Connell Police Department is also participating in the awareness. (See related story.)
