Kennewick man injured in Connell crash

CONNELL — A Kennewick man was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 5:06 a.m. this morning, Aug. 19, on U.S. Highway 395.

Jay M. Ehlers, 56, was taken to a Pasco hospital for treatment of his injuries, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Ehlers was northbound on the highway about 3 miles north of Connell when his 2000 Mercedes 230 rear-ended a pickup truck towing a cargo trailer, the patrol said.

That driver, Hal Colgrove, 70, of Sunnyside, was not injured, the patrol said. His 1997 Dodge Ram pickup and 1995 Volkswagen trailer were able to be driven from the scene.

Mesa Crossroads Towing removed Ehlers vehicle, the patrol said.

Ehlers was cited for second-degree negligent driving, the patrol said, noting neither alcohol nor drugs were factors in the crash.
