Train hauling corn derails

Cars remain; cause of derailment investigated

RICHLAND -- Eight train cars derailed July 31 just west of the Columbia Park Trail-state Highway 240 interchange.

As of this morning, Monday, Aug. 1, they had yet to be removed.

They train was carrying corn and does not pose any contamination risk, officials said. Nobody was injured in the derailment.

Records show the BNSF cars derailed about 4 p.m. Friday near the interchange east of the Yakima River.

The derailment is under investigation.
