Pasco man injured in West Richland crash

Improper U-turn cited as cause by state patrol

WEST RICHLAND — A Pasco man was injured at 10:46 this morning, July 31, in a crash caused by another driver making an improper U-turn.

Kevin W. DeHart, 43, of Pasco, was transported to a Richland hospital for treatment of his injuries, the Washington State Patrol reported.

DeHart was westbound on state Highway 224 in his 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer at the time of the crash, the patrol reported. Walter O. VerHaag, 72, of Benton City, was eastbound on the bypass highway in a 2001 Suzuki Grand.

VerHaag made an improper U-turn and struck DeHart’s vehicle, the patrol said.

Neither VerHaag nor his passenger, Barbara A. VerHaag, 73, of Benton City, were not injured.

All three were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, the patrol reported. And neither drugs nor alcohol were factors.

VerHaag’s vehicle was towed from the scene by Rad Towing West; DeHart’s was towed away by AE Towing, LLC, the patrol reported.
