17-year old charged with first-degree murder

PASCO -- A local teenager is being held in the Benton-Franklin Juvenile Detention Center after being charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Antonio L. Huizar.

Cannon Lopez, 17, of Pasco, is accused of killing Huizar, 18, in a gang-related slaying following a chase on Interstate 182. Huizar's passenger escaped injury.

Lopez was arrested Wednesday, June 10, by the Pasco Police Department's Street Crimes Unit. He made his first appearance in court on Friday, June 12.

Court records show he is being charged as an adult.

Records show Lopez is believed to have shot and killed Huizar during a chase that began about 5 p.m. June 4. At least three cars were initially involved in the chase that began near downtown and ended in the westbound lane of the interstate between the U.S. Highway 395 and Road 68 exits, records show.

Responding law enforcement officers found Huizar in his Toyota with gunshot wounds, as well as three shell casings on the highway, records show.

Huizar was transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, where he died from his injuries on June 9.

Huizar's passenger captured the chase and shooting on video; the name of the passenger has yet to be released. According to records, Lopez is clearly identifiable in the video.
