Mesa driver may face charges in head-on crash

RICHLAND — A Mesa motorist was injured in a crash early Sunday morning on Interstate 82.

Robert M. Ramirez, 37, of Mesa, was transported to a local hospital following the 5:26 a.m. crash near Milepost 105.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and the Washington State Patrol said charges are pending against Ramirez.

Ramirez was eastbound in the westbound lanes at the time of the crash, the patrol reported. He was driving a 2019 Ford F250 pickup.

A 2006 Volvo truck and 2011 utility trailer driven by Emil K. Karimov, 53, of Broomfield, Colo., were westbound in the westbound lanes, the patrol said.

The two vehicles collided head-on.

Ramirez was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, the patrol said, noting troopers have yet to determine if Karimov was wearing a seatbelt.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, the patrol said.

Both trucks and the utility trailer were totaled in the crash.

River City Towing and Damar Towing removed the vehicles from the crash scene.
