Man held on $2 million in connection with Mesa woman's death

MESA – A Franklin County resident is being held on $2 million bail in connection with the death of a former Othello School District teacher.

Chiloe LaRae Chervenell, 49, was booked into the Franklin County Jail on Aug. 11 on charges of second-degree kidnapping and second-degree murder, court records show.

He is accused of killing Kathleen Chervenell-Brinson, 54, a former Othello teacher who was found dead at her Mesa home on Aug. 4.

Her body was found under a pile of bicycles, records show.

According to the court records, Chervenell was under a no-contact order that barred him from going near the Chervenell-Brinson and her two children.

Records allege he went to her Mesa home, killed Brinson and then took the children, ages 7 and 9, to Oregon, where he was later arrested and booked into Umatilla County Jail.

The children were unharmed and Chervenell was subsequently extradited to Franklin County, records show.
