Fire growing along Columbia River Gorge near Lyle

LYLE — An early morning fire along the Columbia River Gorge has state and local fire fighters trying to keep it from reaching nearby homes and orchards.

The Lyle Hill Fire was reported at 7:28 p.m. yesterday, July 12, burning in dry grass, shrub and timber in Klickitat County.

Klickitat County Fire District No. 4 Chief David McCune requested state fire assistance at 5:30 a.m. today, July 13, after the blaze had reached 150 acres and was still growing.

Two wildfire strike teams have been assigned to assist with the fire.

Level 1 fire evacuation notices have bene issued for areas near Lyle.
