Adams County authorities working to identify multiple victims
OTHELLO – A local man has been arrested in connection with an abandoned vehicle containing several bodies found Thursday, Jan. 28.
Mauricio Nava Garibay, 28, of Othello was booked into the Adams County Jail for first-degree murder.
“We remind all to be mindful of the situation and all those involved,” a press release posted to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office social media page said. “The investigation continues, updates will continue as appropriate.”
The arrest follows the grisly, 6:30 a.m. discovery in the 2200 block of Charla Road, near the Edison Tracks.
According to an Adams County Sheriff’s Office report, deputies responded to the location after receiving a report of a vehicle with blood on the hood.
Arriving deputies discovered one person dead in the vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office reported, noting the scene was secured and the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab Response Team called in to help.
During the investigation, the crime lab team found additional remains in the trunk of the vehicle.
The Sheriff’s Office has yet to say how many bodies were located in the vehicle. Nor has it reported details on the cause of death.
Authorities are working to identify the remains.
"At this time we're unable to positively identify the victims or suspects. once properly identified, family will be notified,” Sheriff Dale Wagner said. "Investigations like these are very tasking and delicate."
