Pasco man dies in collision with pickup driving wrong way on I-182

PASCO – A Pasco man died from a collision Saturday morning when a pickup was driving in the wrong direction on Interstate-182.

The highway was closed during the investigation and reopened around 5 a.m., according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Chris Thorson.

Jamin D. Sovy, 37, of Pasco, died when his 2014 gray Toyota Corolla collided with a white 2019 Chevrolet Silverado pickup. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The pickup was driving west in the eastbound lanes of the highway when the collision happened near the exit to Fourth Avenue in Pasco, reports the state patrol.

Investigators believe drugs or alcohol may be a factor but haven't released their determination of the specific cause of the collision.

The driver of the pickup, Alfredo Torres, 25, of Pasco, and his passenger, Sergio Cortez, 25, of Pasco, were taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center to be treated for their injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts.
