Two Connell residents injured in crash

9-year-old girl taken to hospital

PASCO — Two Connell residents, including a 9-year-old girl, were taken to the hospital this morning, July 21, following a crash on U.S. Highway 395.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Consuelo Cardenas, 49, and her passenger, Agimar Cardenas, 9, were both injured in the 8 a.m. crash at Foster Wells Road.

Their conditions were not available.

The driver of a second vehicle, Dylan B. McElderry, 19 of West Richland, was not injured, the patrol reported.

The crash occurred when McElderry, who was eastbound on Foster Wells Road in a 2011 Ford Fusion, failed to stop for the southbound Cardenas, who was driving a 2013 Nissan Versa southbound on the highway, the patrol reported. McElderry's vehichle impacted the side of Cardenas' car, the patrol said.

Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt, the patrol said, noting that neither drugs nor alcohol are factors in the crash.

McElderry was citied for failure to yield the right-of-way, the patrol said.

A-Jacks Auto Service towed the Nissan away from the scene, the patrol reported. McElderry's Ford was damaged, but drivable.
