Othello driver airlifted to medical center

OTHELLO — A local man was airlifted to a medical center and a local woman taken to an area hospital following a crash Saturday afternoon.

Felix Rodriguez Martinez, 74, was airlifted from the scene of the crash at about 4:08 p.m. at the intersection of state Highway 17 and Cunningham Road, the Washington State Patrol reported. His passenger, Rosalva Pelayo Gonzalez, 68, was transported by private vehicle to the local hospital.

The couple was in a 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass at the time of the crash, the patrol reported.

The patrol reported Marco A. Pena, 48, of Othello, was driving the second vehicle involved, a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. He was not injured.

Martinez was eastbound on Cunningham Road and failed to yield to Pena’s southbound truck, the patrol reported. The pickup hit the Cutlass in the intersection.

All three crash victims were wearing seatbelts, the patrol reported, noting the Silverado was also towing a trailer.

The patrol said the cause of the crash was failure to yield the right-of-way.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the crash, the patrol said.
