GLENWOOD -- A Pasco girl drowned during a rafting trip on the Klickitat River on Saturday, June 6.

Jezell Barrera, 14, was pronounced dead at the scene southwest of Yakima, officials said.

Klickitat County Coroner David Quesnel said Barrera was wearing a life vest when her raft flipped and she was trapped under water and drowned.

Barrera was an eighth-grade student at Pasco's McLoughlin Middle School, where she was a cheerleader and member of the jazz band.

The Richland native is survived by her parents, Francisco Barrera and Mergen Bucio.
